Research Professional II

This is a challenging opportunity to work in a dynamic research environment at the University of Georgia. As a Research Professional II, you will be responsible for managing and conducting independent research projects, assisting in maintaining the life cycles of mosquitoes and filariae, and coordinating shipments of filarial materials to researchers. You will also be responsible for laboratory maintenance, including cleaning and sterilizing glassware and equipment, stocking and ordering supplies, and restraining, handling, and bleeding laboratory rodents, dogs, and cats.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and conduct independent research projects
- Assist in maintaining the life cycles of mosquitoes and filariae
- Coordinate and prepare shipments of filarial materials to researchers
- Laboratory maintenance, including cleaning and sterilizing glassware and equipment, stocking and ordering supplies
- Restrain, handle, and bleed laboratory rodents, dogs, and cats
- Perform related duties as required and assist PI, Assoc. and Asst. Research Scientists as needed
This position requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. The ideal candidate will have previous laboratory animal, parasitology/entomology experience, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs and Graph Pad Prism. Experience using a microscope/dissecting scope and previous management of filarial life cycles are also highly desirable.
Working ConditionsThis position will work in a laboratory environment with occasional lifting of boxes. The working hours will be 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, with occasional nights and/or weekends depending on research needs.
