Position Summary: The selected candidate will engage directly with trading teams, playing a vital role in the development, support, and maintenance of trading and analytical solutions, all underpinned by APIs, applications, and visualization tools. Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Senior Vice President of Information Technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with traders and analysts to comprehend existing platforms, trading models, and datasets. Design and implement software solutions that facilitate commercial activities across essential market factors.
  • Lead the requirements gathering and development processes to enhance models, algorithms, data pipelines, and reporting solutions for power flow and economic simulations.
  • Create cloud-native solutions that ensure seamless integration within the IT framework across diverse North American commodity markets.
  • Oversee and refine trading models and data systems utilized by the trading team, focusing on transmission power flows and economic dispatch.
  • Employ analytical thinking to identify enhancements in trading strategies and systems, while exploring new datasets and tools for potential integration.
  • Manage business deliverables in collaboration with cross-functional IT teams to support trade capture and risk analytics.
  • Adhere to established software development protocols, ensuring compliance with risk and IT standards.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Quantitative Finance, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field, with substantial coursework or experience in programming and statistical techniques.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional programming experience within Power or other Commodities technology teams.
  • Proficient in handling extensive datasets and market data.
  • Experience in a front office environment supporting quantitative analytics is essential.
  • Expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, Matlab, C++, .Net, or Java, along with modern data analysis and visualization tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based environments and DevOps frameworks, with knowledge of Microsoft Azure being advantageous.
  • Experience with both traditional and cloud-based database systems, managing large datasets for analytics.
  • Competence in Un*x and Windows operating systems.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with a diverse range of users.
  • A results-driven team player capable of managing multiple projects in a dynamic setting.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong analytical mindset.
  • A genuine passion for technology and a commitment to staying abreast of industry trends.
  • A quick learner with adaptability to fast-paced environments.

Preferred Experience:

  • Hands-on programming experience in the power industry and familiarity with US ISO power markets.
  • Experience with industry-standard power transmission analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and messaging systems.
