Position Overview

The Financial Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in supporting the Controller's office by managing daily financial activities and ensuring the integrity of financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cash Management: Oversee daily cash operations, including the maintenance of wire transfer records.
  • General Ledger Oversight: Act as a liaison to the Student Accounts Department, ensuring accurate maintenance and timely reconciliation of the general ledger for all student activities.
  • Allowance for Doubtful Accounts: Supervise the preparation of allowances for doubtful accounts and project bad debt expenses for the fiscal year.
  • Finance Grants Management: Oversee the Finance Grants Function, including the review of financial reports.
  • Payroll Supervision: Ensure consistent workflow and reporting within the Payroll Department.
  • Investment Activity Support: Assist in supervising investment activities.
  • Contributions Coordination: Oversee financial activities related to contributions and collaborate with the Student Advancement Office.
  • Retirement Plan Administration: Provide support to the College Retirement Plan Administrator by coordinating external audits and filings.
  • Loan Program Accounting: Supervise accounting for all Federal and Private Loan Programs.
  • Policy Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the Mercy Financial Policy and finance staff desk references.
  • General Ledger Analysis: Conduct analyses and reconciliations for supervised areas.
  • Audit Preparation: Supervise the preparation of audit schedules and analyses.
  • System Upgrades: Oversee testing and system upgrades for areas under supervision.
  • Journal Entry Review: Review and approve all journal entries for areas supervised.
  • Abandoned Property Coordination: Coordinate the review and remittance of abandoned property.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Organizational Leadership

  • Develop initiatives to enhance team engagement and morale.
  • Provide clear expectations and constructive feedback to employees.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing training.
  • Set productivity goals and mentor employees to achieve them.
  • Manage departmental resources effectively to meet goals.
  • Continuously assess operations for optimal efficiency.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration within the team.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Encourage acceptance of organizational changes and foster commitment to departmental objectives.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's Degree preferred; Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • CPA certification is a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years in Accounting, Auditing, or Finance.
  • Public Accounting experience or CPA preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Prior management experience is preferred.
