Position Overview: This role involves underwriting new Excess Casualty business and renewals in accordance with established authority levels and guidelines. At Argo Group, we collaborate to serve specialty markets, focusing on the success of our clients by providing tailored coverage through our subsidiaries. Our comprehensive range of high-quality products and services is designed to address the unique coverage and claims-handling requirements of our clientele.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and price policies to ensure compliance with company underwriting standards and authorized limits for both primary and excess coverage.
  • Employ underwriting tools to ascertain accurate classifications, rates, and premium calculations.
  • Engage with wholesale brokers through various communication channels to gather risk-specific information, negotiate terms, and clarify company positions.
  • Manage an assigned underwriting territory, including agent management and travel to agent offices as necessary.
  • Oversee and authorize endorsements as required.
  • Address premium audit disputes within the designated territory.
  • Review state regulations, including cancellation and non-renewal laws, to ensure proper business transactions.
  • Generate, analyze, and interpret data from diverse reports.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or two to five years of relevant insurance experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • One to three years of underwriting experience with authority, preferably in excess and surplus lines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior educational background in insurance, such as IIA and CPCU, is desirable.
  • Detail-oriented with initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Excellent analytical capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
