Role Overview: This position involves underwriting new Excess Casualty business and renewals, adhering to established guidelines and authority levels. Our collaborative approach focuses on serving specialty markets, ensuring the success of our clients through tailored coverage options provided by our subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and price policies to ensure compliance with company underwriting standards and authorized limits.
  • Employ underwriting tools to accurately classify risks, set rates, and determine premium charges.
  • Engage with wholesale brokers through various communication channels to gather risk-specific information, negotiate terms, and clarify company policies.
  • Manage an assigned underwriting territory, including agent management and travel to agent locations.
  • Review and approve endorsements as necessary.
  • Address premium audit disputes within the designated territory.
  • Familiarize with state regulations regarding cancellation and non-renewal to conduct business appropriately.
  • Analyze and interpret data from diverse reports.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or two to five years of relevant insurance experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • One to three years of underwriting experience with authority, preferably in excess and surplus lines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior educational experience in insurance, such as IIA and CPCU, is advantageous.
  • Detail-oriented with initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Excellent analytical capabilities.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
