This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work environment, allowing for remote work if not within commuting distance to our offices. You will collaborate with your manager to create a work schedule that accommodates both personal and professional commitments, while maintaining visibility in the marketplace.
The role can be filled at either the Senior or AVP underwriting level, depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Our Underwriters play a critical role in driving profitable growth and delivering exceptional service to our broker partners and clients. Key responsibilities include:
- Generating, underwriting, and analyzing domestic Complex and Loss Sensitive Casualty business
- Engaging in market-facing and production activities
- Adhering to underwriting guidelines, insurance regulations, and rating manual rules
- Building and maintaining strong agency and broker relationships
- Managing complex assignments within broad limits and authorities
Basic Qualifications for Senior Casualty Underwriter:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years of experience in Underwriting, Brokerage, or Market Facing roles
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years of relevant experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience working under time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business
- Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment
Basic Qualifications for AVP Casualty Underwriter:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent with 7+ years of experience in Underwriting, Brokerage, or Market Facing roles
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5+ years of relevant experience
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications (Senior/AVP Level):
- Bachelor's Degree
- Expertise in Domestic Complex Casualty Products
- Strong risk assessment capabilities
- Established broker relationships within the Midwest
- Exceptional skills in relationship management, active listening, needs analysis, and negotiation
- Commitment to high-level customer service, consistently meeting broker and client expectations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles, techniques, and relevant regulations
