Kalepa Insurance Services, LLC is seeking a seasoned Senior or AVP E&S Casualty Underwriter to become a vital part of our newly established E&S Casualty team, focusing on the Central region. This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work model, allowing you to collaborate with your manager to create a work schedule that accommodates your needs as well as those of our clients and brokers.

Our E&S division is committed exclusively to a wholesale distribution framework, complemented by a product and technology strategy aimed at positioning Kalepa as a leader in the E&S market, as evidenced by metrics such as gross written premium, profitability, and employee satisfaction.

This position may be filled at either the Senior or AVP Underwriter level, with the hiring manager determining the appropriate classification based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. As a Senior or AVP Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in guiding and mentoring the team, providing technical expertise on essential coverage matters and documentation.

Key Responsibilities of the E&S Casualty Underwriter:
  • Foster and maintain relationships with broker partners and clients across various sectors to support business goals.
  • Utilize your expertise in casualty underwriting to assess risks, evaluate exposures, and establish pricing strategies that ensure a profitable portfolio of new and renewal business.
  • Collaborate with various business units, including claims, finance, risk engineering, and technical underwriting, while acquiring in-depth knowledge in a dynamic and innovative sector.
  • Employ your market-facing, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to cultivate and strengthen relationships with preferred distribution partners within your designated territory.

As a Senior E&S Casualty Underwriter, your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as an advocate for customer industries, focusing on enhancing the customer experience by comprehensively understanding their risks and providing optimal insurance solutions.
  • Implementing a systematic approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.
  • Leveraging risk insights, data, and models to inform decisions at the point of sale.
  • Engaging in market-facing activities and production within the expanding Kalepa E&S Casualty division.
  • Administering and overseeing underwriting guidelines, insurance regulations, and rating manual rules.
  • Handling complex assignments within broad limits and authorities.
  • Mentoring and empowering junior team members.
Basic Qualifications for Senior E&S Casualty Underwriter:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with 10+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support roles.
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support roles.
Basic Qualifications for AVP, E&S Primary Casualty Underwriter:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with 7+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with 14+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support roles.
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 12+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support roles.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in the E&S Commercial insurance sector.
  • Technical expertise in Primary Casualty Underwriting within E&S.
  • Established relationships with wholesale brokers.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
