Job Summary

This role is integral to the operational People & Talent (P&T) function for the departments it serves.

The P&T Specialist will assist line managers throughout the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, rehabilitation, performance management, employee relations, labor law compliance, and compensation assessments.

This position will be part of a dynamic, agile, and rapidly growing People & Talent team, requiring effective collaboration and the ability to make independent decisions.
Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:

- Administering performance management annual reviews.


- Facilitating employee engagement initiatives by supporting managers in data collection, coordinating team feedback, and ensuring follow-up on commitments.

- Maintaining compliance and providing guidance on federal, state, local, and union labor laws.

- Collaborating with People & Talent Total Rewards and Business Partners on individual employee matters (retention, promotions, etc.).

- Actively participating in Access Ltd initiatives, training, projects, and events.

- Providing grievance responses and conducting investigations in line with applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements.


- Advising and supporting managers on employee relations issues while ensuring adherence to performance management boundaries set by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.


- Partnering with People & Talent and frontline managers to ensure the onboarding process for new employees is thorough; conducting periodic check-ins during their first 90 days.


- Conducting exit interviews as necessary, capturing areas for improvement, and recommending actions to management and People & Talent.


- Maintaining data and employee records in the HRIS, continuously seeking improvements in practices and procedures.

- Processing transactions related to onboarding and termination data.


- Advising managers on company policies, practices, and local regulatory requirements to resolve policy-related queries concerning core People & Talent processes.

- Coordinating with relevant company resources to ensure employee safety and compliance (OSHA).

- Representing the company during Collective Bargaining as needed.


- Assisting with future Mergers & Acquisitions by evaluating and comparing processes to ensure integration milestones are achieved with minimal disruption to business operations.


Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
To succeed in this role, an individual must effectively perform each essential duty. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

- PHR or SPHR certification is preferred but not mandatory.

- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, ideally with a unionized employer, or 5 years in a non-union environment.

- Experience managing a wide range of HR activities throughout the employee lifecycle (this could be in a small company generalist role or a large company specialist role).

- Experience in a matrixed organization is preferred.

- Proven ability to manage and resolve various employee relations issues.

- Familiarity with HR Information Systems (HRIS) and handling confidential data.

- Strong customer service orientation.

- A passion for process improvement and operational efficiency.

- Excellent consultative skills.

- Knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws and safety regulations.

- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative.

- Strong problem-solving skills.

- Proficient in MS Office Suite.

- Familiarity with HRIS/payroll systems.

- High capacity for rapid learning.

- Ability to collaborate effectively and build trust and credibility.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and develop strong working relationships.

Work Environment
Hybrid - Work from Home on designated days, with required in-office presence on other days.
