Role Summary:

The Senior Aquatic Supervisor is tasked with managing the aquatic environment, which includes life guarding duties, monitoring and documenting chemical levels, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the overall hygiene of the swimming facilities. This role serves as the primary contact for aquatic-related inquiries and challenges in the absence of higher management.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

The candidate must possess a strong understanding of customer service principles, effective time management skills, and exceptional verbal and written communication abilities. Interpersonal and organizational skills are essential, along with the capacity to embody a welcoming and supportive demeanor. The individual should demonstrate ethical conduct and business practices, ensuring that personal behavior aligns with organizational values and standards of accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. General Duties:
    • Maintain a tidy and organized pool area.
    • Address patron concerns promptly and appropriately.
    • Report all incidents and issues to the Aquatics Director or Associate Director.
    • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
    • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook and Aquatics Procedural Handbook.
  2. Pool Management:
    • Ensure proper chemical levels are maintained in the pool.
    • Test and document pool water conditions, taking corrective actions as necessary.
    • Maintain familiarity with the pump room operations.
    • Perform maintenance tasks as assigned.
  3. Life Guarding:
    • Monitor and supervise the pools during all aquatic activities, following established procedures.
    • Be prepared to implement Emergency Procedures when necessary.
    • Keep lifeguard safety equipment accessible at all times during active surveillance.
    • Execute rescue operations and provide appropriate care when required.
  4. Leadership Responsibilities:
    • Ensure compliance with YMCA policies among lifeguards and pool operators during shifts.
    • Act as the primary contact for customer service issues related to aquatics in the absence of management.
    • Ensure adherence to Health Department regulations during shifts.
    • Notify the Aquatics Director or designee of any required supplies or significant repairs.
Qualifications:

Requirements:
  1. Certifications:
    • Obtain Frederick County Pool Operator's License within the first month of employment.
    • Lifeguard/CPRO/AED/First Aid certifications (American Red Cross preferred; YMCA and Ellis accepted at hiring, must transition to American Red Cross before certification expiration).
  2. Ability to understand simple instructions and written communications; effectively present information orally; read and interpret policies and procedures; and communicate effectively in front of groups.
  3. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  4. Minimum of one year of experience as a lifeguard or equivalent role.
