The individual in this role is a vital member of the healthcare management team, providing strategic leadership and oversight for the development and execution of quality and patient safety initiatives. This includes performance enhancement, patient safety protocols, and accreditation compliance, with a focus on planning, organizing, and directing the operational activities necessary to support these essential services.

The Chief Quality Improvement Officer champions a Culture of Safety, ensuring effective application of performance improvement methodologies, while maintaining data integrity, validity, and reliability.

This position acts as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies and oversees the organization's continuous readiness for surveys and evaluations.

Collaboration with the Medical Staff is crucial to promote evidence-based quality and safety practices, as well as patient-centered care aimed at achieving optimal patient outcomes.

The Chief Quality Improvement Officer is accountable for aligning quality improvement objectives with the organization's overarching goals and priorities.



Minimum Education/Experience Requirements: A degree (Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate) in a health-related discipline, accompanied by a minimum of 5 years of relevant healthcare management experience, or extensive experience in allied health professions (greater than 7 years) with appropriate credentials in the relevant areas of responsibility.

Experience in quality and performance improvement, along with familiarity in case management and related fields, is essential.

Demonstrated expertise in Performance Improvement, Outcomes, and Quality Management is required.


As applicable, candidates should also possess knowledge in Peer Review, Risk Management, Patient Safety, and Infection Control Prevention and Reporting.

Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and processing are necessary.



Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal) and proficiency in presentation are required. Familiarity with computer operations, statistical analysis, spreadsheets, and database systems is essential.


Current knowledge of regulations pertaining to quality standards and compliance is expected.


Understanding of Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) guidelines and current trends in quality management is crucial.

Ability to lead and coordinate diverse teams effectively is a must.


Capability to work collaboratively with hospital teams to motivate stakeholders towards embracing necessary changes aligned with the organization's commitment to quality and clinical initiatives.

Licenses/Certificates/Credentials: Registered Nurse preferred, with certification in Professional Risk Management and/or Healthcare Quality Certification to be obtained within three years of hire.

Key Responsibilities:

a) Lead the Quality and Performance Improvement initiatives across the organization.

b) Integrate Quality and Performance Improvement Program activities for both Medical and Hospital-wide Staff.

c) Manage data and reporting for Quality and Performance Improvement projects.

d) Oversee the Quality and Performance Improvement department and its personnel.

e) Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures related to confidentiality and data protection as required for this position.

f) Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Registered Professional Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in a patient care-related field.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement.

Certifications: Must hold current licensure, certification, or registration to practice as mandated by law or regulation.
