Position Summary: The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will play a crucial role in the development, implementation, and enhancement of various machining and assembly processes, as well as the integration of new technologies and production lines within SIG SAUER's manufacturing facilities. The focus will be on CNC machining and assembly of precision firearm components, guided by detailed technical drawings and interchangeable parts. This role will also involve conducting manufacturing feasibility studies, quality planning, and corrective actions for internal quality issues while leading cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize manufacturing processes within the facility.
  • Expertly determine manufacturing methodologies for innovative firearm product designs, providing budget estimates for necessary equipment and production rates.
  • Utilize project management skills to acquire tooling and equipment for new products, ensuring adherence to launch timelines and budgetary constraints.
  • Oversee the achievement of cost, productivity, and quality objectives for entire production lines, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Develop annual cost savings strategies through comprehensive analysis and established procedures.
  • Assess and enhance product designs for manufacturability, applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Provide expert guidance in various technical areas related to the design, development, and implementation of manufacturing systems and processes, including:
    • High-volume CNC machining fixtures
    • Machine and Tool Design
    • Assembly Techniques
    • Metal Finishing Processes
    • Automation Solutions
  • Test and validate new capital equipment to meet quality and throughput goals.
  • Develop comprehensive machine specifications and negotiate requirements with suppliers.
  • Create detailed process documentation, including quality control plans, operator instructions, and production routings using SIG Agile product lifecycle tools.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Address and prevent quality issues across production lines using statistical methods, including gage R&R and control plan methodologies.
  • Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers, providing guidance and support.
  • Participate in problem-solving teams across various products and processes, completing tasks within agreed timelines.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives and maintain organized workplace standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering with 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of GD&T principles as per ASME Y14.5M-1994.
  • Certification in Shainin Red X and/or Six Sigma is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and expert in SOLIDWORKS and data analysis software.
  • Strong understanding of materials and heat treatment processes.
  • Ability to leverage extensive experience and judgment to achieve objectives.
  • Experience in evaluating and troubleshooting manufacturing processes and production lines.
  • High standard of work quality and effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in various engineering concepts and practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency in project management techniques.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and flexibility in approach.
