The Project Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing the establishment of new JD Sports retail locations and its affiliated brands. This position emphasizes the management of New Store Openings, Expansions, and Renovations across North America. Reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager, the individual will be responsible for the comprehensive management of Capital Project cycles, ensuring seamless collaboration among various JD Group Teams: Design, Projects, Cost, Procurement, and external contractors/vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate, track, and oversee the sanctioned capital budget for each initiative in partnership with the Cost Management Team.
  • Collaborate closely with the broader Projects Team to produce progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and relevant presentations.
  • Engage effectively with Project & Design teams, consistently evaluating and enhancing processes.
  • Proactively manage project scope alterations, identifying potential risks and devising contingency strategies as necessary.
  • Evaluate General Contractor bids alongside the Cost Manager/Cost Team to select the appropriate contractor for each project, as well as to establish the overall timeline.
  • Work in tandem with other Project team members, suppliers, and contractors to ensure accountability for their designated tasks and timely completion.
  • Oversee the management of Requests for Information (RFIs) during the bidding phase and throughout construction, ensuring prompt responses with accurate information to advance the project.
  • Assess and process change order proposals, proposal requests, supplemental instructions, and other contractual documents.
  • Verify that the Architect of Record (AOR) possesses all necessary design components, including internal markups and vendor shop drawings, before bidding.
  • Coordinate with tenant design, operational, and technical teams to ensure precision in the development of tenant construction documents and build-out.
  • Facilitate weekly construction progress meetings, including the preparation of meeting minutes, schedule updates, change order logs, and communications to the broader team.
  • Ensure collaboration with general contractors to deliver projects on schedule and within budget, adhering to JD Standards.
  • Document and track all owner-supplied material submissions, such as shop drawings and finish selections, for approval.
  • Conduct multiple site visits throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as required.

Experience and Skills:

  • Proficient understanding of Retail Construction and comprehensive experience in the New Store Opening process.
  • Previous experience in Project Management.
  • Capability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining budgetary constraints and high standards.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to real-time situations and respond accordingly.
  • Self-motivated and driven, yet able to function effectively within a team.

Education and Experience Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in engineering, architecture, or construction project management from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience is required. A minimum of 4 years of experience in construction, store facilities, maintenance, or a design role within a specialty retail environment is necessary.

Technical Skills:

Intermediate proficiency with Google and Microsoft Office applications is expected. Familiarity with Smartsheets, Excel, and various web-based project management tools is advantageous.

  • In-depth knowledge of tenant-improvement construction sequencing and timelines to formulate construction phasing plans and strategies.
  • Ability to assess and communicate Landlord Construction exhibits, mall/center design criteria, core/shell structural considerations, and MEP and energy system requirements.
  • Ability to convey and communicate technical construction aspects of potential projects to other departments and teams, develop project schedules, identify Landlord delivery requirements, risks, and trade-offs, and review and inform capital budgets.

  • Willingness to travel approximately 40% of the time by land and air.

The company reserves the right to modify this job description with or without notice. Employees may be asked to perform additional duties outside of their normal job scope on a temporary basis as per company policy. Salary range for this position is $100,000-$110,000, with a 10% bonus target. This role is eligible for medical, dental, vision, 401k, sick leave, parental leave, and company-paid time off.
