Position Overview:

As an Aquatic Safety Officer at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all aquatic center visitors. Under the guidance of the Aquatics Manager and Aquatic Leads, your primary responsibilities will include supervising pool activities, assisting swimmers, preventing accidents, and enforcing safety regulations. You will be expected to remain vigilant and prepared to respond to emergencies, providing care in accordance with your certification standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the activities within the aquatic center, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
  • Enforce facility rules with patience and consideration, maintaining a secure environment for all patrons.
  • Maintain constant vigilance in assigned areas to identify potential hazards and respond swiftly to emergencies.
  • Uphold the mission and values of The Salvation Army in all interactions and programming.

Facility Maintenance:

  • Assist in the upkeep and cleanliness of the aquatic center.
  • Manage the setup and breakdown of lesson equipment, ensuring proper inventory and maintenance.
  • Conduct water quality testing as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Adhere to the employee handbook and maintain a professional appearance while on duty.

Instructional Duties:

  • Deliver swimming lessons to participants of all ages and skill levels, following a structured lesson plan.
  • Keep accurate attendance records and maintain organized documentation of lesson plans.
  • Ensure participant satisfaction and safety during swim lessons and aquatic programs.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and patrons, both in person and via phone.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 17 years.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English; Spanish language skills are a plus.
  • Familiarity with the Aquatic Staff Manual and Emergency Action Plan procedures.
  • Availability for varied shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Experience in public service and a demonstrated ability to engage positively with individuals.
  • One year of lifeguarding experience and teaching swim lessons or coaching swim teams is preferred.
  • Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification required within the first six months of employment.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification is required within the first year of employment.
  • Successful completion of Safe From Harm training is mandatory.
  • A thorough background check will be conducted prior to hiring.
