The University of Miami Health System is offering an exciting opportunity for a Part-time Ultrasound Technologist II.


The University of Miami Health System is expanding its state-of-the-art facility that serves as a hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This expansion will enhance our ability to deliver world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the growing community.

Our facility will feature a variety of services, including specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. This expansion aims to provide residents with specialized medical services right in their community.

Once complete, the facility will include multiple operating rooms, endoscopy procedure rooms, cancer treatment bays, and a comprehensive range of ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy.


The Ultrasound Technologist - Level II plays a crucial role in performing complex procedures in Ultrasound, utilizing radiographic equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images. This position requires independent judgment, creativity, and initiative, along with responsibility for designated areas, procedures, and equipment. The technologist will supervise daily operations in the absence of the Chief Technologist or Radiology Manager.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Coordinate and manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.

2. Supervise and perform diagnostic imaging studies under the direction of a radiologist, while assisting in the education and training of new physicians.

3. Collaborate with radiologists and PhD professionals to develop new protocols and unique Ultrasound imaging techniques.

4. Participate in research initiatives and contribute to the development of research protocols.

5. Act as a team leader on a routine basis.

6. Monitor the charging of Ultrasound procedures and supplies to ensure accuracy.

7. Demonstrate Ultrasound equipment during site visits for physicians and administrators.

8. Provide in-service training within the section.


Obtain and review orders for Ultrasound scans to ensure understanding of requested procedures, patient conditions, and any special notes. Ensure that orders align with the recommended type of exam.

Notify supervisors of any discrepancies and contact physician offices for corrections as necessary.


Identify patient service requirements by establishing rapport with patients and others involved in understanding service needs. Verify patient identification by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical records and wristbands.

Always obtain necessary consents and provide education.


Perform specialized tasks associated with the operation of Ultrasound scanners and related equipment, adhering to prescribed safety procedures under the supervision of a Radiologist, using age-appropriate standards of practice. Integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history, and medical records to adapt exams as necessary.

Maintain adherence to Ultrasound protocols to ensure high-quality standards.

Consistently demonstrate proficiency in performing Ultrasound scans as ordered.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography and/or Vascular program.

ARDMS registration required, with ARDMS-Abdominal & Vascular certification necessary. CPR and BLS certification required.

Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
