Job Summary

The University of Miami is seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Imaging Specialist to join our team. As a Diagnostic Imaging Specialist, you will be responsible for performing complex procedures in Ultrasound through the operation of radiographic equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
  • Supervise and perform diagnostic imaging studies under the direction of a radiologist.
  • Assist with the education and training of new physicians.
  • Develop and implement new protocols and imaging techniques.
  • Participate in research initiatives and develop research protocols.
  • Act as a team leader and provide guidance to junior staff members.
  • Monitor charging of Ultrasound procedures and supplies to ensure accuracy.
  • Demonstrate Ultrasound equipment for visiting physicians and administrators.
  • Provide in-service classes and training to staff members.
  • Obtain and examine patient orders to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Verify patient identity and obtain necessary consents.
  • Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of Ultrasound scanners and related equipment.
  • Integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, and patient history to adapt exams as necessary.
  • Adhere to Ultrasound protocols to maintain high-quality ultrasound standards.
  • Consistently demonstrate competence in performing Ultrasound scans.
  • Assist with positioning patients and maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Assist radiologists with imaging procedures and interventional Ultrasound procedures.
  • Evaluate Ultrasound scans for technical quality and transmit to PACS.
  • Schedule patients for procedures and assist with clerical functions.
  • Charge procedures and supplies accurately.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Provide education and training to new staff members.
  • Apply physical and developmental care needs of patients according to their documented requirements.
  • Perform basic nursing functions and assume care for physical and psychological needs of patients.
  • Keep work areas clean and sanitary and stock exam rooms with required supplies.
  • Provide on-call coverage and report unusual findings to radiologists or supervisory personnel.
  • Abide by hospital and departmental policies and adhere to regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography and/or Vascular accredited program.
  • ARDMS registered with Abdominal and Vascular certification.
  • CPR and BLS certification.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Office.
