About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Counsel to join our Commercial Business Units team at BD. As a key member of our Global BD Law Group, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and execution of our company's growth strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice on corporate and commercial/transactional law, with a focus on the medical device industry.
  • Identify and resolve complex legal issues to support the commercial operations of a global leader in the research, development, manufacturing, sales, and marketing of medical products.
  • Develop strong knowledge of supported BD portfolios and clients, and provide day-to-day legal advice to the businesses.
  • Serve as legal reviewer alongside Medical and Regulatory representatives to review and approve advertising and promotional materials.
  • Maintain familiarity with laws that affect the medical device industry, including those relevant to sales and marketing of products to healthcare professionals and reimbursement by government programs.
  • Advise and counsel relating to M&A, partnerships, and strategic collaborations, including conducting due diligence and drafting and negotiating related agreements.
  • Develop strong relationships throughout all functional areas, departments, and divisions to foster an advisory or collaborative approach to proactive compliance.
  • Collaborate across many functions, countries, cultures, and time zones to drive results on complex projects.
Requirements
  • 8 or more years of relevant law firm and/or corporate in-house law department experience.
  • Hold a J.D. or L.L.M with strong academic credentials from an accredited law school and an undergraduate degree from a college or university of recognized standing.
  • Admission to the California Bar, and a member in good standing, or eligible to practice as California Registered in-house counsel under California Rules of Court 9.46.
  • Solid analytical and conceptual skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with an acute ability to listen attentively and to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to present nuanced, complicated, and content-rich issues clearly and succinctly.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship skills and ability to influence diverse stakeholders, navigate controversial situations, and change traditional ways of doing business.
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, exercise independent judgment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work under significant deadline pressures.
  • Ability to commute into San Diego office location for three days per work week (hybrid model).
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
