Opportunity Summary:
We are in search of a talented and forward-thinking Mechanical Engineer to serve as our in-house technical authority on A13's groundbreaking commercial-sized shear extrusion press. This position demands strong collaboration and effective communication with an external press manufacturer throughout the intricate design, construction, and commissioning phases. The ideal candidate will possess a profound knowledge of extrusion press technology, design, operation, and aluminum extrusion processing, along with expertise in hydraulic and servo-hydraulic systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive technical evaluations of the commercial press during the detailed design phase.
- Perform risk assessments related to the commercial press throughout the design and construction phases.
- Maintain all CAD documentation and layout designs for A13's press systems.
- Create and manage operational documentation for the machinery.
- Develop maintenance protocols, operator training programs, and spare parts inventory for the shear extrusion press.
- Lead Design FMEA and Process FMEA initiatives for the shear extrusion press.
- Assist in the commissioning of the extrusion press.
- Oversee initial operations of the shear extrusion press.
- Collaborate with simulation teams to inform engineering design and risk management strategies.
- Work with design, engineering, and production teams to interpret simulation results for process improvements and product development.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations to convey findings to stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with large metal forming machinery, preferably in the aluminum extrusion sector.
- Proficiency in working with large motor-driven systems, including hydraulic and servo-hydraulic technologies.
- Experience with large tonnage presses exceeding 20 MN.
- Solid understanding of aluminum extrusion processes, materials science, and the mechanical properties of metals.
- Familiarity with FMEA methodologies for risk management in new equipment and processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality documentation and organization.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with extrusion modeling software such as Altair Inspire, Qform, Simufact, or Deform.
- Competence in linear stress analysis using FEA tools and general stress analysis of heavy machinery components.
- Knowledge of industrial control systems and sensors utilized in heavy manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience in the metal extrusion or forging industries.
