Position Overview

The Automation Control Specialist is responsible for designing, planning, and executing project-specific control systems hardware under the guidance of the Controls Engineering Manager. This role involves managing multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create control-related schematics using AutoCAD Electrical for client approval, installation, and maintenance documentation.
  • Develop standardized schematics for frequently utilized control panels and components.
  • Enhance and optimize the hardware design workflow to reduce project timelines and costs.
  • Ensure precision, quality, and uniformity in control hardware design documentation across projects.
  • Assess control-related challenges that may occur, communicate these to the Controls Engineering Manager, and assist in devising and implementing effective solutions.
  • Provide training to team members in the controls department on the effective use of AutoCAD Electrical and established drawing templates.
  • Maintain detailed records of project budgets and outstanding issues related to assigned tasks, providing timely updates to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure adherence to project timelines for assigned duties.
  • Assist in estimating and acquiring costs and schedules related to control hardware for project estimates and contract modifications, including materials, engineering, and installation expenses.
  • Support the Project Manager in preparing precise project Change Orders.
  • Travel as required for project-related meetings, implementation, coordination, and commissioning activities.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to develop commissioning and acceptance testing protocols to secure final project approval from clients.
  • Contribute to the creation of spare parts lists and maintenance manuals for control equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a material handling or machine tool Controls Engineer, or at least six years of proven experience in this area.
  • Formal training or demonstrated proficiency in the software tools necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the National Electrical Code and relevant electrical standards.
