This role involves delivering ISA-95 Level 2 and potentially some Level 3 related equipment/process supervisory control solutions, as well as all ancillary processes/systems, to industrial customers. Project management and delivery are integral to this role, ensuring that all designed systems are deployed at the right price, quality, and schedule for the customer.

This role encompasses analysis, architecture, development, deployment, and management responsibilities. Typically, this role is part of the customer's Engineering/Operational Technology (OT) and/or Maintenance organization, sometimes referred to as an "Automation Engineer" or "Controls Engineer."

Responsibilities:

  • Possess a deep understanding of edge/hybrid/cloud device/system concepts, including supervisory control and data acquisition systems and IoT device integration best practices.
  • Knowledgeable about edge hardware/software devices/systems, including SCADA, Network Layer-2 switches, communication protocols, etc. (ISA-95 Level 1-2).
  • Develop and deploy industrial application/system user interfaces, business logic, database interfaces, device interfaces, and related analytics.
  • Create clear, concise, and detailed job instruction sheets that can be easily understood by both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Skilled in technical writing and documentation, with an emphasis on instructional materials for hardware and software operations.
  • Experience in creating diagrammatic representations of network setups and data flow using industry-standard tools (e.g., Microsoft Visio, Lucid, etc.).
  • Work closely with other team members, including IoT engineers, production engineering, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with common industry best practices and standards.
  • Understand compliance and security issues related to the use of edge technologies in industrial settings.
  • Manage industrial projects and solutions, including design, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Oversee projects, including reporting, requirements analysis, estimating, scoping, proposal building, and customer explanations.
  • Manage third-party/external suppliers' activities and deliverables.
  • Deliver solutions across 3-5 different customers (internal and/or external).
Requirements:
  • 1-year post BS or work-study experience in automation and control design. Professional Engineer (PE) registration is not required but desirable.
  • Upon onboarding in the customer's organization, there is a set of internal, customer-specific education that needs to take place both upfront and ongoing:

    • Engineering standards
    • Engineering technology directions
    • Engineering reporting practices
    • Overall organization structure and roles/responsibilities
    • Procurement practices
    • Document management practices
    • Safety practices
    • Supplier/Vendor practices
