Position Overview

The Automation Control Specialist is responsible for conceptualizing, planning, and executing project-specific control systems hardware under the guidance of the Controls Engineering Manager. This role involves managing multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring adherence to the allocated project budget for assigned tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create controls-related schematics using AutoCAD Electrical for client approval, installation, and maintenance documentation.
  • Develop standard schematics for frequently utilized control panels and components.
  • Enhance and optimize the hardware design workflow to reduce project time and costs.
  • Increase the precision, quality, and uniformity of control hardware design schematics across projects.
  • Assess controls-related challenges that may arise, communicate these to the Controls Engineering Manager, and assist in devising and implementing effective solutions.
  • Provide training to colleagues within the controls department on the effective use of AutoCAD Electrical and standard drawing templates.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of budgets and outstanding issues for assigned tasks, delivering this information to the Project Manager promptly.
  • Ensure adherence to project timelines for assigned responsibilities.
  • Assist in estimating and acquiring costs and schedules related to control hardware for project estimates and contract modifications, including materials, engineering, and installation expenses.
  • Support the Project Manager in preparing precise project Change Orders.
  • Travel as required for project-related meetings, implementation, coordination, and commissioning activities.
  • Collaborate with software engineers on commissioning and acceptance testing plans to facilitate final project approval from clients.
  • Provide necessary information for the development of spare parts lists and maintenance manuals for control equipment.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Controls Engineer in material handling or machine tools, or at least six years of relevant experience.
  • Formal training or proven expertise in the software applications essential for fulfilling the responsibilities of this role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the National Electrical Code and associated electrical standards.
