The Defense Systems Group (DSG) offers analytical decision support to senior officials regarding space architectures, policy, strategy, developmental planning, and system-of-systems engineering, ultimately shaping future space missions within the national security space framework. DSG's unique position at Aerospace allows it to directly assist major clients, including Air Force Space Command and U.S. Strategic Command, while also providing extensive services across the national space landscape.

As a Senior Project Leader - Space-Ground Systems Engineer within the Space Based Sensing Division, you will spearhead Aerospace's contributions to the Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution ground system acquisition initiatives. These systems will facilitate the Next Generation overhead persistent infrared (OPIR) GEO and Polar missile warning and tracking capabilities. Your role will involve close collaboration with senior customers, Aerospace personnel, and subject matter experts to identify mission requirements and pursue opportunities for optimizing cost, performance, and timelines.

Work Model
This position requires on-site presence at the contractor facility for a minimum of three days each week.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver system integration expertise for the Next Generation OPIR Program's Ground System to the USG/Space Force.
  • Utilize disciplined system integration methodologies to identify and resolve technical discrepancies.
  • Engage in program status evaluations and independent risk assessments to inform management of potential issues and propose solutions.
  • Contribute to oversight of contractor system integration strategies and detailed planning for functional and performance testing.
  • Define critical decision points and milestones to ensure successful transitions from development to operational capabilities.
  • Represent Aerospace in technical forums, including design reviews and program management meetings.
  • Support development and verification of space-ground interfaces and enterprise sell-off activities.
  • Provide technical leadership during major technical issue responses and coordinate support for milestone reviews.
  • Facilitate communication with customers, SETA, and contractors to ensure mission alignment.
  • Collaborate with government counterparts to fulfill mission objectives.

Qualifications for Success
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of twelve years of relevant professional engineering experience, particularly in multi-disciplinary systems engineering or program management.
  • Experience in the development, testing, and implementation of space-ground systems.
  • Prior leadership or project management experience in engineering.
  • This role necessitates an active secret clearance with the capability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
  • Willingness to undertake periodic travel, typically one trip per month.

  • An advanced degree in a STEM field.
  • In-depth knowledge of ground system architectures.
  • Technical understanding of the current threat landscape.
  • Experience working within a matrixed engineering organization.
  • The ability to operate effectively and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • A strong customer-focused approach with excellent coordination skills.
  • Proven experience with Aerospace backplane/ETG systems.
  • An active TS/SCI clearance.
