The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analytical decision support to senior leaders regarding space architectures, policy, strategy, developmental planning, and system of systems engineering. This support is crucial in shaping future space missions within the national security space framework. DSG is distinctive at Aerospace as it not only directly aids major clients, including Air Force Space Command and U.S. Strategic Command, but also offers a wide array of services across the national space landscape, maintaining both vertical and horizontal responsibilities.

As a Senior Project Leader - Space-Ground Systems Engineer within the Space Based Sensing Division, you will spearhead Aerospace's contributions to the Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution ground system acquisition initiatives. The FORGE ground systems will facilitate the Next Generation overhead persistent infrared (OPIR) GEO and Polar missile warning and tracking systems. Your role will involve collaborating with senior USSF clients, Aerospace personnel, and subject matter experts to pinpoint and address mission requirements while ensuring adherence to cost, performance, and scheduling.

Work Model
This position requires on-site presence at the contractor facility for a minimum of three days each week.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver system integration expertise for the Next Generation OPIR Program's Ground System to the USG/Space Force.
  • Utilize structured system integration methodologies to identify and resolve technical discrepancies.
  • Engage in program status evaluations and independent risk assessments to inform management of potential issues and recommend actionable solutions.
  • Contribute to the oversight of contractor system integration strategies and detailed planning for functional and performance testing.
  • Define essential system integration decision points and milestones to ensure successful transitions from development to operational phases.
  • Represent Aerospace in program meetings and technical forums, including design reviews and program management reviews.
  • Support the development, testing, and verification of space-ground interfaces.
  • Provide technical leadership in Enterprise sell-off activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external Aerospace counterparts.
  • Coordinate team support for customer activities.
  • Lead responses to non-conformance, anomalies, and significant technical issues during customer engagements.
  • Facilitate space-ground support for milestone reviews.
  • Maintain on-site presence and communication with customers and contractors.
  • Work with government counterparts to fulfill mission requirements.

Qualifications for Success
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of twelve years of relevant professional engineering experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and program management.
  • Experience in the development, testing, and implementation of space-ground systems.
  • Prior experience in engineering leadership or project management roles.
  • This position necessitates an active secret clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance, issued by the US government. US citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.
  • Willingness to support periodic travel (typically one trip per month).

  • Proven experience with Aerospace backplane/ETG systems.
  • An active TS/SCI clearance.
