In the Defense Systems Group (DSG), we provide analysis-driven decision support to senior officials on space architectures, policy, strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat mitigation, shaping future space missions across the national security space landscape. DSG is distinctive at Aerospace as it not only directly assists major clients, including Air Force Space Command and U.S. Strategic Command, but also offers a wide array of services and support throughout the national space framework.

As a Senior Project Leader - Space-Ground Systems Engineer within the Space Based Sensing Division, you will spearhead Aerospace's contributions to the Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution ground system acquisition initiatives. The FORGE ground systems will facilitate the Next Generation overhead persistent infrared (OPIR) GEO and Polar missile warning and tracking capabilities. Your role will involve collaborating with senior USSF stakeholders, Aerospace personnel, and subject matter experts to pinpoint and address mission requirements while ensuring adherence to cost, performance, and schedule parameters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver system integration expertise for the Next Generation OPIR Program's Ground System to the USG/Space Force.
  • Utilize structured system integration methodologies to identify and resolve technical discrepancies.
  • Engage in program status evaluations and independent risk assessments, advising management on potential issues and recommending actionable solutions.
  • Contribute to the oversight of contractor system integration strategies and detailed planning for system testing across ground, space, and combined capabilities.
  • Establish critical decision points and milestones to ensure effective transition of system capabilities from development to operational status.
  • Represent Aerospace in program meetings and technical forums, including design reviews and management assessments.
  • Support the development and verification of space-ground interfaces and enterprise sell-off activities.
  • Provide technical leadership during non-conformance and major technical issue response initiatives.
  • Coordinate team support for customer activities and milestone reviews.
  • Maintain a strong on-site presence, fostering communication with customers and contractors.
  • Collaborate with government counterparts to fulfill mission objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of twelve years of relevant engineering experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and program management.
  • Experience in the development, testing, and implementation of space-ground systems.
  • Prior leadership or project management experience in engineering.
  • Active secret clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Willingness to support periodic travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a STEM field.
  • Hands-on knowledge of ground system architectures.
  • Technical understanding of the current threat landscape.
  • Experience working within a matrixed engineering organization.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer-focused approach with excellent coordination skills.
  • Proven experience with Aerospace backplane/ETG systems.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
