In the Defense Systems Group (DSG), we provide analytical decision support to senior leaders regarding space architectures, policy, strategy, developmental planning, and threat mitigation, influencing future space missions within the national security space framework. DSG is distinctive at Aerospace as it not only directly aids major clients, including Air Force Space Command and U.S. Strategic Command, but also delivers a wide array of services across the national space landscape.

As a Senior Project Leader - Space-Ground Systems Engineer within the Space Based Sensing Division, you will spearhead Aerospace's involvement in the Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution ground system acquisition programs. These systems will facilitate the Next Generation overhead persistent infrared (OPIR) GEO and Polar missile warning and tracking capabilities. Your role will involve collaborating with senior customers and Aerospace experts to identify mission requirements and pursue opportunities to optimize cost, performance, and timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver system integration expertise for the Next Generation OPIR Program's Ground System.
  • Utilize disciplined system integration methodologies to identify and resolve technical discrepancies.
  • Engage in program status evaluations and independent risk assessments to inform management of potential issues and recommend actionable solutions.
  • Contribute to oversight and insights for contractor system integration strategies and detailed planning for functional and performance testing.
  • Define critical decision points and milestones to ensure successful transitions from development to operational phases.
  • Represent Aerospace in technical forums and program meetings.
  • Support the development and verification of space-ground interfaces.
  • Provide technical leadership in Enterprise sell-off activities.
  • Coordinate team support for customer initiatives.
  • Lead responses to non-conformance and major technical issues during customer engagements.
  • Facilitate milestone review preparations.
  • Maintain on-site presence to communicate effectively with customers and contractors.
  • Collaborate with government counterparts to meet mission objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of twelve years of relevant engineering experience, including systems engineering and program management.
  • Experience in the development, testing, and implementation of space-ground systems.
  • Prior leadership or project management experience in engineering.
  • Active secret clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Willingness to travel periodically.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a STEM field.
  • Hands-on knowledge of ground system architectures.
  • Technical understanding of the current threat landscape.
  • Experience working within a matrixed engineering organization.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer engagement skills.
  • Proven experience with Aerospace backplane/ETG.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
