Position Summary

The Host/Hostess embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine Healthcare (NMHC), adhering to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program while complying with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

This role involves delivering meal trays to patients, ensuring their dining experience is pleasant and compliant with dietary needs.

Note: This position requires a rotating schedule, including every other weekend.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver the correct meal tray to each patient, verifying accuracy against the diet report to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare patient meal trays with precision.
  • Provide all necessary nourishments to patients.
  • Adhere to established policies, infection control protocols, and standard precautions while preparing and serving trays.
  • Assist patients in preparing for meals by opening containers and coordinating with nursing staff for positioning and other needs.
  • Collect trays from patient rooms, documenting fluid intake and percentage consumed.
  • Retrieve soiled trays from utility rooms and return them to the kitchen, ensuring cleanliness of meal carts and equipment.
  • Follow up with patients post-meal to ensure satisfaction.
  • Conduct introduction rounds and distribute room service menus to new patients or those with dietary changes.
  • Complete all duties promptly, including assisting patients with menu selections.
  • Communicate menu choices to the nutrition operator as necessary and maintain inventory levels.
  • Organize and stock supplies, adhering to the 'first in, first out' method.
  • Monitor food temperatures and address any items outside the appropriate range, documenting actions taken.
  • Maintain cleanliness in utility areas, refrigerators, and microwaves, disposing of any unlabeled items.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or, in lieu of a diploma/GED, a minimum of one year of relevant experience in customer service, food service, retail, or healthcare.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Preferred:

  • One year of experience in customer service.
  • Familiarity with dietary restrictions.
