Position Overview
The Vice President of Human Resources plays a crucial role in aligning organizational goals with employee engagement and management strategies. This position is pivotal in establishing partnerships across the HR spectrum to provide valuable services that resonate with the company's objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and forecast HR needs; Analyze workforce metrics to propose effective solutions, programs, and policies. Contribute actively to the organizational budgeting process.
- Collaborate with HR and cross-functional teams within a shared service framework. Offer insights related to talent acquisition, development, performance management, retention, engagement, training, restructuring, workforce planning, and succession planning.
- Influence and define Labor Relations strategies, clarifying the HR role in labor relations and executing plans in conjunction with the Chief Human Resources Officer and shared services.
- Work alongside management to determine staffing requirements and collaborate with Talent Acquisition to implement recruitment strategies.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of legal obligations concerning employee management, minimizing legal risks, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Partner with legal advisors as necessary and provide guidance on HR policies.
- Engage with management and staff to enhance workplace relationships, boost morale, and improve productivity and retention. Provide ongoing performance management support to line management, including coaching, counseling, and career development.
- Identify training requirements for business units and individual leaders. Participate in assessing and monitoring training initiatives to ensure effectiveness and follow up to confirm training goals are achieved.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or a related field.
- Preferred Juris Doctorate (JD) with a focus on employment law.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in Human Resources, including at least 5 years in an HRBP or HR Generalist role within a unionized environment.
- Proven knowledge of employment law at both Federal and State levels.
- Exceptional oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience presenting at the executive level, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Preferred background in transportation, logistics, or maritime shipping sectors.
