Position Overview:

The Director of Communications will lead the development and execution of strategic communications plans to support the American Cleaning Institute's (ACI) government affairs and regulatory activities. This role requires excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to create and maintain dialogue with various stakeholders, including journalists.

  • Develop and disseminate communications materials, such as news releases, policy briefs, and op/eds, to enhance ACI's ability to achieve its policy goals.
  • Collaborate with the government affairs and regulatory teams to develop and implement effective communications strategies.
  • Manage crisis communications efforts, including developing workflows and organizing crisis team meetings.
  • Represent ACI in public and media settings, and with outside stakeholder groups.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry and sustainability media outlets.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, marketing, public relations, writing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of eight years' experience in writing, communicating, and project management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience developing and executing strategic communications plans.
  • Ability to assess a situation and make decisions and suggestions for improvement.
  • Impeccable attention to detail and follow-through.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Create, write, edit, and update communications materials to support ACI's legislative and regulatory activities.
  • Lead coordinated response efforts on key issues, managing the process from gathering input from multiple stakeholders to developing and disseminating messages.
  • Catch and correct media stories and influential social media mentions, building and maintaining strong relationships with industry and sustainability media outlets.
  • Optimize implementation of the ACI Crisis Communications Plan.
  • Represent ACI at professional meetings, to stakeholder groups, and via media interviews.
