Description

The selected candidate will serve as a faculty member within the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, specifically in the Department of Psychiatry's Division of Adult Psychiatry. Responsibilities include delivering outpatient clinical psychotherapy services to patients across various clinical settings. The role also encompasses providing clinical and educational training while establishing research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

Administrative Duties
  • Engage in monthly faculty meetings within the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Ensure confidentiality regarding departmental and patient information.
  • Participate in the interviewing process for resident candidates in Psychiatry and Medicine.
  • Contribute to workgroups focused on practice, residency, clerkship, and other faculty responsibilities.
  • Serve on assigned committees within the Department, SIU HealthCare, or School of Medicine.
  • Complete additional administrative tasks as designated by the Lead Therapist.
Teaching Responsibilities
  • Engage in the Psychotherapy Training Committee and supervise residents during weekly psychotherapy sessions.
  • Oversee social work interns and psychology trainees as necessary.
  • Assist in conducting seminars and/or clerkships each academic year.
  • Participate in educational and departmental retreats.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional practice in alignment with SIU Healthcare policies while conducting individual and/or group psychotherapy.
  • Conduct initial assessments for psychiatric patients, appropriately triaging to psychiatrists, residents, fellows, and therapists, considering educational needs.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation for all outpatient clients in a confidential manner, adhering to SIU-HC standards.
  • Provide education and information throughout all phases of outpatient care to clients and/or families, acting as a patient advocate and assisting with problem-solving.
Qualifications

• A Doctorate Degree in Social Work is required.

• Must possess or be eligible for licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Illinois.

• Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
