Description

The successful candidate will engage as a full-time faculty member within the Department and Medical School, focusing on Clinical Education. This role emphasizes a significant dedication to educational initiatives, including scholarly activities that enhance leadership, administration, and the promotion of superior clinical care.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Duties (5% of time)
  • Allocate time for academic considerations (0.05 FTE).
  • Assume additional divisional and departmental administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Division Chief.
  • Engage in activities related to the Fellowship Program.
Teaching Responsibilities (15% of time)
  • Contribute to the SIU Department of Medicine's commitment to high-quality medical education across various learning stages (medical school, residency, fellowship, continuing education).
  • Deliver clinical teaching, which constitutes 7.5% of the clinical full-time equivalent (CFTE).
  • Mentor and supervise students, residents, and fellows during inpatient and outpatient consultations.
  • Prepare and present lectures, seminars, and rounds for students and residents participating in the Infectious Diseases elective, as well as other learners across departments.
  • Conduct periodic educational sessions for the division.
  • Organize conferences for the Department of Medicine.
Research and Advanced Training (5% of time)
Engagement in research activities aligned with personal interests and departmental policies.

Service Responsibilities (75% of time)
Professional Services
  • Conduct inpatient and outpatient consultations as requested by SIU clinical faculty, house staff, and community physicians.
  • Maintain professional practice in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Achieve a clinical full-time equivalent (CFTE) of 82.5%, which includes 7.5% clinical teaching, targeting a minimum of 3,346 RVUs annually based on recent benchmarks.
  • Participate in outreach initiatives with local medical centers.
University, Hospital, and Regional Services
  • Contribute to university and hospital committees as needed.
Qualifications
  • Awareness of the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  • Graduate of an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of a formal specialty training program in Infectious Disease.
  • Board certification or eligibility for the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Board certification or eligibility for the Infectious Diseases Board.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois or eligible for licensure prior to employment.
