Description

The selected candidate will serve as a faculty member within the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, specifically in the Department of Psychiatry's Adult Psychiatry Division. Responsibilities include delivering outpatient clinical psychotherapy services to patients across various SIU clinical locations. The role also encompasses providing clinical and educational training while establishing research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Duties
  • Engage in monthly faculty meetings within the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Uphold confidentiality regarding departmental and patient information.
  • Conduct interviews for resident candidates in the Psychiatry and Medicine Psychiatry programs, offering constructive feedback.
  • Participate in relevant workgroups concerning practice, residency, clerkship, and other faculty responsibilities.
  • Contribute to assigned committees within the Department, SIU HealthCare, or School of Medicine.
  • Undertake additional administrative tasks as directed by the Lead Therapist.
Teaching Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the Psychotherapy Training Committee and oversee residents during weekly psychotherapy supervision.
  • Supervise social work interns and psychology trainees as appropriate.
  • Assist in the delivery of seminars and/or clerkships each academic year.
  • Engage in educational and departmental retreats.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional practice in line with SIU Healthcare policies while conducting individual and/or group psychotherapy.
  • Conduct initial assessments for psychiatric patients, triaging as necessary to psychiatrists, residents, fellows, and therapists, while considering the educational needs of residents and fellows.
  • Ensure clear, accurate, and timely documentation for all outpatient clients, adhering to ethical and confidential standards.
  • Provide education and information throughout all phases of outpatient care to clients and/or families, enhancing their understanding and adherence to medical recommendations. Act as a patient advocate and assist with problem-solving.
Qualifications

• A Doctorate Degree in Social Work is required.

• Must possess or be eligible for licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Illinois.

• Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
