Job Summary
The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine seeks a dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Internal Medicine. The successful candidate will play a vital role in enhancing clinical education and patient care within our institution.
The position emphasizes a strong commitment to clinical excellence, educational advancement, and scholarly contributions.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Duties
A. Allocate time for academic considerations.
B. Undertake additional divisional and departmental administrative tasks as assigned by the Division Chief.
Teaching Responsibilities
The SIU Department of Medicine is devoted to providing exceptional medical education throughout various stages of training (including medical school, residency, fellowship, and continuing education).
A. Clinical Instruction (with 7.5% dedicated to standard clinical duties)All full-time faculty members are expected to engage in teaching while providing clinical care.
- Guide, mentor, and oversee students and residents during inpatient and outpatient consultations.
- Develop and deliver lectures, seminars, and rounds for students enrolled in the Nephrology elective.
In addition to clinical teaching, faculty members are expected to participate in formal, scheduled educational activities outside of clinical care.
- Organize and present lectures, seminars, and conferences for resident house staff, medical students, and other learners within the Department of Medicine and beyond.
- Conduct periodic educational sessions for the division.
- Prepare conferences for the Department of Medicine.
- Deliver lectures and conferences at hospitals in surrounding communities.
Service Contributions
A. Professional Engagement
- Conduct inpatient and outpatient consultations as requested by clinical faculty, house staff, and community physicians.
- Maintain a professional practice in accordance with departmental standards.
- Achieve a clinical full-time equivalent (CFTE) of 87.5%, including 7.5% for clinical teaching, targeting a minimum of 6,708 RVUs annually.
Specific Clinical Responsibilities include:
- Providing dialysis outreach to affiliated practices.
- Offering inpatient consultations at local hospitals, including shared on-call responsibilities.
- Delivering outpatient services at the main clinic and affiliated outreach locations.
- Engage in university, hospital, and regional committees as needed.
Qualifications
Commitment to addressing the needs of underrepresented populations.
Graduation from an accredited medical school.
Completion of a formal specialty training program in Nephrology.
Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.
Possession of a valid medical license in the State of Illinois prior to employment.
