Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Shelter Supervisor to join our team at First Step Communities. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our program site, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for our clients and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of Client Support Associates, providing guidance and feedback to ensure excellent service delivery.
  • Manage staff scheduling, including coverage for shifts and approved days off, to ensure a smooth operation of the program site.
  • Monitor and maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment, adhering to all First Step Communities policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, clients, and partners, including laundry and food providers, to ensure seamless operations.
  • Participate in monthly community meetings for clients and staff, promoting a sense of community and collaboration.
  • Assist with training and onboarding of new staff, volunteers, and temporary staff, ensuring a smooth transition into their roles.
  • Review and respond to incident reports, emails, and daily notes, maintaining accurate records and ensuring prompt action is taken when necessary.
  • Perform basic front desk duties, including answering phones, filing, data entry, and monitoring surveillance.
  • Be available to cover shifts as needed, ensuring the program site remains operational and clients receive the support they need.
Requirements
  • High school diploma and at least 12 months of related experience and/or training.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills, with the ability to exercise patience and empathy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on providing excellent customer service.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry, with the ability to learn new software and systems quickly.
  • Valid California driver's license, DMV record, and proof of auto insurance are required.
  • CPR, First Aid, and NARCAN certification preferred.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to heat, cold, and rain. The noise level can be quiet to very noisy, and the work environment may be physically demanding at times.
