Position Overview:
The Lead Automation Solutions Engineer is tasked with shaping and executing the automation and systems integration framework that supports STERIS's warehouse and distribution center functionalities.

This role involves evaluating existing operational workflows and the interplay between business systems and personnel to uncover avenues for automation, enhancement, and minimization of manual processes through the use of robotics, conveyance systems, static and dynamic racking, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and other innovative technologies.

The incumbent will formulate the automation strategy, establish a technology roadmap, and outline actionable plans for implementation while overseeing the execution process.

Additionally, the role requires managing relationships with external suppliers, identifying appropriate partners, and fostering essential collaborations with automation and technology vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Development: Evaluate the operational landscape of designated warehouse and distribution centers to pinpoint opportunities for enhancing workflow and minimizing human interaction, thereby improving efficiency and safety metrics.
  • Implementation Strategy: Post-assessment, devise and articulate a sustainable implementation plan, which includes warehouse design considerations, prioritization of high-impact opportunities, projected costs, and required resources for both new and existing projects.
  • Standardization: Develop and promote standardized practices for managing technology projects, providing expert guidance on operational layouts and material handling for warehouse locations.
  • Automation Implementation: Lead the specification development process, establish maintenance and qualification protocols for technology systems, and ensure comprehensive documentation is maintained.
  • Vendor Management: Oversee the vendor selection process and manage capital appropriation requests.
  • Project Execution: Direct all engineering phases of project implementation, including specification development, procurement, fabrication, and installation.
  • Training Development: Identify necessary skills and create training programs to equip operators and technicians for effective equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Performance Monitoring: Develop and apply methods to assess the effectiveness of implementations, ensuring compliance and leading corrective actions as necessary.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with business leadership and the corporate advanced engineering team to ensure alignment with the overarching advanced engineering strategy.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required.
Experience: 10-15 years in advanced engineering fields, particularly in warehouse, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, robotics, and automation. A minimum of 5 years in project management with a proven track record of delivering significant business impacts through innovative solutions.

Experience in analyzing business requirements, developing lean strategies, and successfully implementing pilot programs for new technologies is essential. Familiarity with managing substantial capital programs is also required.
