Knowledge of:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Minimum Education/Training:

Associate's degree in Baking & Pastry Arts or a related discipline from an accredited institution.

Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years of relevant industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:

Prior experience in post-secondary education is preferred.

Five (5) years of relevant industry experience.

Position Description

DEFINITION:

To deliver educational courses in the Baking & Pastry Arts program, focusing on sanitation, safety, and culinary techniques for students. Responsibilities include developing and refining curriculum, preparing instructional materials, and providing classroom instruction through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on laboratory experiences.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct oversight from the Baking & Pastry Arts Program Director and the Public Service Department Chair.

May occasionally receive general guidance from full-time instructional staff.

Exercises no supervisory responsibilities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENT:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Establishing and maintaining high standards for classroom and laboratory practices in sanitation and safety.

Instructing students in essential knife skills and the use of baking tools, dress code adherence, sanitation practices, and foundational cooking and baking techniques.

Evaluating student performance through assessments and practical examinations.

Delivering classroom and laboratory instruction to students.

Preparing lesson plans and scheduling classroom activities.

Creating supplementary materials to enhance textbook lessons.

Developing assessments to evaluate student performance and maintaining accurate records of individual scores.

Providing demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; designing laboratory assignments for practical experience.

Maintaining accurate records of student attendance and performance.

Submitting all required documentation in a timely and organized manner, including class rosters, registration forms, and grade records.

Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures related to the teaching area in accordance with institutional guidelines.

Other Important Functions:

Demonstrating all skills to students through classroom presentations.

Providing constructive feedback to students based on their performance.

Assessing the relevance and effectiveness of various lessons and recommending improvements as necessary.

Participating in field studies and assignments; traveling with students to provide support and instruction as appropriate.

Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
