Overview:
The role involves delivering educational instruction to college students through various methods including lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on laboratory exercises. The instructor may teach courses such as Art Appreciation, Art History - Survey I & II, and studio classes relevant to the AFA-Visual Arts program.
Supervision:
- Direct supervision from the department chair.
- General oversight from full-time instructional staff may occur.
- No supervisory responsibilities are held.
- Conduct classroom and laboratory instruction for students.
- Design lesson plans and organize classroom activities.
- Create supplementary materials to support textbook content.
- Develop assessments to evaluate student performance and maintain accurate grading records.
- Provide demonstrations using various equipment and machinery; create laboratory assignments for practical experience.
- Keep precise records of student attendance and academic performance.
- Submit all required documentation promptly and accurately, including class rosters and grade sheets.
- Ensure adherence to policies and procedures relevant to the teaching area in line with institutional guidelines.
- Evaluate lesson effectiveness and suggest improvements as necessary.
- Participate in field studies and assignments, offering assistance and instruction during student trips.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Required:
- Instructional techniques and procedures for classroom and laboratory settings.
- Academic principles and instructional methodologies.
- Current trends and research in the field of visual arts.
- Test development and administration techniques.
- Ability to interpret and apply institutional goals, policies, and regulations.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Capacity to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- A Master's degree in Art or a Master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Art from an accredited institution.
- Experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
- Proficiency in Metals and Jewelry.
