Position Type: Adjunct Faculty

Department: Art

Overview:

The role involves delivering educational instruction to college students through various methods including lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on laboratory exercises. The instructor may teach courses such as Art Appreciation, Art History - Survey I & II, and studio classes relevant to the AFA-Visual Arts program.

Supervision:
  • Direct supervision from the department chair.
  • General oversight from full-time instructional staff may occur.
  • No supervisory responsibilities are held.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct classroom and laboratory instruction for students.
  • Design lesson plans and organize classroom activities.
  • Create supplementary materials to support textbook content.
  • Develop assessments to evaluate student performance and maintain accurate grading records.
  • Provide demonstrations using various equipment and machinery; create laboratory assignments for practical experience.
  • Keep precise records of student attendance and academic performance.
  • Submit all required documentation promptly and accurately, including class rosters and grade sheets.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures relevant to the teaching area in line with institutional guidelines.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate lesson effectiveness and suggest improvements as necessary.
  • Participate in field studies and assignments, offering assistance and instruction during student trips.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Knowledge Required:
  • Instructional techniques and procedures for classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Academic principles and instructional methodologies.
  • Current trends and research in the field of visual arts.
  • Test development and administration techniques.
Skills Required:
  • Ability to interpret and apply institutional goals, policies, and regulations.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Capacity to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Experience and Education:

  • A Master's degree in Art or a Master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Art from an accredited institution.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • Proficiency in Metals and Jewelry.
