Position Overview:
This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the Pathology and Histology departments, ensuring efficient workflow and effective personnel management.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs all activities related to histology and pathology, including the recruitment, onboarding, and training of personnel.
  • Fosters a culture of competency and encourages ongoing professional development among staff.
  • Monitors operational costs by analyzing productivity, staff utilization, overtime, and material consumption, implementing necessary corrective measures.
  • Contributes to the development of an integrated quality management system for the laboratory.
  • Ensures adherence to the standards set by regulatory and accreditation bodies.
  • Designs and enforces effective risk management protocols.
  • Leads research initiatives for new or enhanced testing methodologies, including conducting experimental procedures and validating their feasibility for practical application.
  • Addresses and resolves client inquiries and concerns.
  • Coordinates the launch and implementation of new services or the transfer of existing services.
  • Engages in collaborative projects across departments and facilities to enhance service quality and client support.
  • Develops comprehensive transition plans for new services or tests, including outreach strategies and timelines, while monitoring progress to meet service objectives.
  • Aligns internal resources to support the introduction of new services.
  • Acts as the primary contact for ongoing and emerging issues with relevant information systems.
  • Conducts needs assessments as necessary.
  • Facilitates the integration of secondary laboratory information systems.
Qualifications:
Experience
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a high-volume histology laboratory is required.
Education
  • A Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a related discipline is required, or four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) is required.
Certification
  • Histologic Technologist Certificate, Pathologist's Assistant Certificate, or Histologic Technician Certificate is required.
Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to operate effectively within a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in a scientific or related field is preferred.
  • Additional coursework in business administration or management is advantageous.
