Anatomic Pathology Assistant

Job Overview:
Under the guidance of a Physician Pathologist, the Anatomic Pathology Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the anatomic pathology operations by: Preparing and analyzing surgical pathology samples, conducting postmortem dissections with detailed documentation, and preparing tissue sections along with other related tasks as directed by the Chief Pathologist.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct postmortem examinations and provide thorough descriptions.
2. Process surgical pathology samples, including dissection, documentation, and embedding for accurate diagnosis by Pathologists.
3. Prepare fine needle aspiration samples.
4. Prepare frozen sections for interpretation by Pathologists.
5. Ensure quality control and manage equipment and supplies within the surgical pathology laboratory and autopsy suite.
6. Engage in quality improvement initiatives and projects for the Pathology Department.
Maintain adherence to practice standards, policies, and procedures as outlined in the Department's Policy and Procedure Manuals related to surgical pathology and autopsy services.
Participate in ongoing education and skills evaluation in line with established and emerging practices and techniques relevant to surgical and autopsy pathology.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience: Not applicable.
Education: A Bachelor's degree from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited pathologists' assistant training program and/or current Fellowship with the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Additional Requirements:
Fellowship and/or National Certification of Pathologists' Assistants must be upheld throughout employment in this role.
Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in a Pathology Department is preferred.
Master's Degree is advantageous.
