YOUR ROLE (KEY RESPONSIBILITIES)...

The SOAR (SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery) Support Specialist is vital in assisting clients with the application process for state-supported insurance, ensuring access to community-based behavioral health services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide clients through the navigation and application processes for state-supported insurance programs while ensuring adherence to applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and community resources to enhance access to behavioral health services.
  • Maintain precise and confidential client records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Identify potential applicants through team discussions, outreach efforts, and referrals from community partners.
  • Conduct interviews to collect necessary information for SSI/SSDI applications.
  • Gather medical records and other essential documentation for SSI/SSDI applications.
  • Draft SOAR Medical Summary Reports for individual applications.
  • Accompany clients to appointments at the Social Security Administration.
  • Coordinate visits to medical professionals, psychiatrists, and other specialists to obtain supporting evidence for applications.
  • Facilitate case management services with partners and provide direct support as needed.
  • Assist the team with administrative tasks when required.

OUR EXPECTATIONS...

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in public health, health education, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in benefits administration, insurance coordination, or a comparable role within a healthcare or social services environment.
  • SOAR certification is preferred; if not currently certified, NMH will cover the training and certification costs.
  • Strong understanding of public and private benefits systems and state resources.
  • Familiarity with federal and state laws, accreditation standards, and regulations governing healthcare record confidentiality.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage professionally with diverse individuals.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and committed to delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Self-driven and capable of working independently, with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
