Job Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking skilled individuals for the role of Emergency Veterinary Technician specializing in small animals. This position is crucial in providing essential technical assistance to veterinary faculty and advanced veterinary students within the Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) unit of our veterinary facility. Responsibilities include assisting in the intake of emergency cases, performing triage, and admitting patients efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver critical care nursing interventions in the Intensive Care Unit or designated treatment areas as instructed by veterinary faculty.
- Guide senior veterinary students in mastering technical and practical skills related to emergency and critical care during regular and after-hours shifts.
- Be available for on-call duties and cover ICU shifts, including during holidays.
- Support other departments as directed by supervisory staff.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Veterinary Technician in the Commonwealth of Virginia. A solid understanding of fundamental nursing practices, proficiency in placing intravenous catheters, and experience in critical care nursing within a veterinary context are essential. Knowledge of CPR, strong communication skills, and the physical capability to handle animals weighing up to 50 lbs. are also required. Rabies prophylaxis will be provided by the employer.
Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of two years of experience in a veterinary clinical environment, particularly in emergency and critical care, is preferred. Certification as a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Emergency and Critical Care is highly regarded.
Compensation and Employment Details
This position is classified under Pay Band 4, with a starting salary of $42,500, commensurate with experience. The appointment type is regular.
