The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, clinical non-tenure track faculty role in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences. This position focuses on Large Animal Emergency and Critical Care, and we are looking for a dedicated professional to enhance our teaching, clinical service, and research initiatives. The selected candidate will share responsibilities for emergency services and educational duties alongside faculty members in related services. This role emphasizes clinical service, particularly in after-hours emergency care. The position presents a unique opportunity to play a significant role in the establishment and growth of a dedicated large animal emergency service, aimed at enriching emergency and critical care training for veterinary students. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to outstanding patient care, superior client service, and robust relationships with referring veterinarians. The caseload at the large animal hospital is diverse, comprising approximately 80% equine cases and 20% from other species, including small ruminants and porcine.
Engagement in scholarly activities and collaborative research is expected, aligning with the responsibilities of a non-tenure track faculty member. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to various instructional formats, including clinical experiential learning, didactic lectures, laboratory sessions, and small group discussions for DVM students, as well as interns and residents in specialized training programs.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess a DVM or equivalent degree and have successfully completed a residency program accredited by relevant veterinary colleges. A minimum of three years of clinical experience in large animal emergency management is required, which may include residency training. Eligibility for a Virginia faculty veterinary license and strong communication and interpersonal skills are mandatory. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is also essential.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who are Diplomates of relevant veterinary colleges and hold an advanced degree (MS/PhD) in biomedical sciences.
