Job Title: Veterinary Technician for Large Animal Care at Commonwealth of Virginia
Job Overview:
- Deliver essential and advanced nursing services to a diverse range of large animals, including equines, llamas, alpacas, swine, goats, sheep, and bovines at the Large Animal Clinic.
- Administer medications and treatments, perform physical assessments, maintain accurate medical records, and assist in various procedures.
- Provide technical assistance to clinical personnel and students concerning patient management and equipment usage.
- Be available for various shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
- Support various tasks as directed by the supervising authority.
Essential Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid license or be eligible for licensure as a Veterinary Technician in Virginia.
- Effective communication skills with students, faculty, and staff.
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks and demonstrate compassion for large animals.
- Ability to make swift decisions in critical situations.
- Understanding of large animal anatomy, CPR, and operation of medical instruments.
- Experience in handling livestock and utilizing medical tools.
- Physical capability to manage 75 pounds and undergo rabies prophylaxis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Licensed Veterinary Technician.
- Familiarity with nursing techniques, pharmaceuticals, and surgical instruments.
- Experience in large animal medical procedures and clinical environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an educational setting.
Compensation: Starting salary at $42,500.00 annually, commensurate with experience.
Additional Information: The selected candidate will be subject to a criminal background check.
