Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is looking for qualified individuals to fill the role of Veterinary Surgical Support Technician. This position involves assisting veterinary professionals during surgical interventions for both routine and emergency cases. The successful candidate will be responsible for educating veterinary students on maintaining strict aseptic protocols throughout the surgical process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the smooth operation of surgical procedures by ensuring the availability of necessary personnel and equipment.
  • Manage inventory and procurement of surgical supplies.
  • Perform essential central sterile tasks, including the cleaning, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments.
  • Provide assistance in various capacities as directed by supervisory staff.

Essential Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in veterinary care for both small and large animals.
  • A solid understanding of basic anatomy and physiology relevant to companion and large animals.
  • Familiarity with central sterile supply operations and surgical environments.
  • Proficiency in handling and restraining diverse animal species.
  • Knowledge of surgical protocols, instrumentation, and sterile techniques.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Completion of rabies prophylaxis (provided by the employer).

Preferred Qualifications

Certification from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) as a Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) or eligibility to obtain this certification within one year of employment.

Compensation

The salary for this position starts at $35,438.00, commensurate with experience.
