Position Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is in search of skilled individuals for the role of Small Animal Veterinary Technician/Floater. This position is essential in providing technical assistance to clinical faculty and advanced veterinary students within the medical departments of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Responsibilities include managing wards and treatment areas, administering prescribed treatments and medications, and performing specialized nursing care procedures, which may encompass diagnostic tasks and infection control protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute critical care nursing procedures in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as directed by clinical faculty.
- Instruct senior veterinary students in essential technical and practical skills related to ICU and critical care.
- Be available for on-call ICU coverage and manage ICU shifts, including during holidays.
- Assist in various departments of the hospital as instructed by supervisory personnel.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Veterinary Technician in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Experience in intensive care within a veterinary medical environment is essential, along with familiarity with specialized procedures and electodiagnostics. A solid understanding of fundamental nursing skills, CPR knowledge, and the ability to place intravenous catheters are necessary. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are vital, and candidates must be prepared to receive Rabies prophylaxis, which will be provided by the employer.
Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of two years of experience in a veterinary clinical environment is preferred.
Compensation
The position is classified under Pay Band 4, with a starting salary of $42,500.00, commensurate with experience.
Additional Information
The selected candidate will be required to undergo a criminal conviction check.
