Job Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated individual to assist in delivering both fundamental and advanced nursing support to patients admitted to the Large Animal Clinic. This role involves providing technical assistance to clinical staff, including faculty, residents, interns, and senior veterinary students, in all facets of patient care, animal management, and the operation of specialized diagnostic and medical apparatus.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the veterinary team in the provision of quality care to large animals.
- Assist in the handling and restraining of various species and breeds.
- Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment.
- Collaborate with clinical faculty and students to ensure effective patient management.
- Be prepared to work flexible hours, including shifts on weekends and holidays as needed.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions regarding patient care.
- Capacity to identify needs and prioritize tasks to maintain high-quality care.
- Competence in making informed emergency decisions for the welfare of both animals and humans.
- Proficiency in administering medications through various accepted methods.
- Physical ability to handle and move items weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Willingness to undergo Rabies prophylaxis, provided by the employer.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in veterinary care for large animals.
- Familiarity with different animal restraint techniques.
- Experience with specialized veterinary equipment.
Compensation
- Pay Band: 3; Wage: Starting at $15.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
Additional Information
- The selected candidate will be required to undergo a criminal background check.
