Position Overview

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday, from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Flexibility is essential to accommodate the operational needs of the shelter, including potential overnight and weekend shifts, particularly during emergencies.

Compensation: $34.46 per hour, based on experience.

Location: Pine Street Inn, Dorchester, MA.

Role Summary:

The Lead Supervisor at Pine Street Inn will work collaboratively with the Director to offer direction and support across all shifts. This role is pivotal in assisting with the daily management of the emergency shelter, while also prioritizing key tasks as directed by the Shelter Director.

This position requires a high level of responsibility, flexibility, and decision-making abilities. It emphasizes the importance of fostering positive relationships with staff, overseeing hiring, training, and retention efforts, as well as providing effective management and supervision.

Key Objectives:
  • Establish a secure environment for both staff and guests by applying the principles of Trauma-Informed Care and Harm Reduction throughout all shelter policies and interactions.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director and other key personnel to enhance the shelter's engagement strategies, promoting proactive support for guests to facilitate their transition to stable housing.
  • Enhance the performance of approximately 20 emergency shelter staff by implementing robust management and supervision practices.
Qualifications:

Education/Training:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in computer skills, particularly MS Word and Excel, with the ability to learn and utilize management information systems.
  • Experience and training in Trauma-Informed Care and Harm Reduction methodologies.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of experience in a social service environment.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience within a social services context.
  • Experience in providing services to populations facing challenges, including addiction and mental health issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated success in leading teams through transitions.
  • Familiarity with local resources for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty.
  • Understanding of Housing First principles and local mental health and substance abuse resources.
  • Experience with disability law compliance in public accommodations.
  • Ability to evaluate requests for reasonable accommodations in social service settings.
  • Bilingual candidates, particularly in English and Spanish, are preferred.
  • Knowledge of community-oriented and Trauma-Informed Care practices.
  • Experience with triage, diversion, and assessment processes.
  • Familiarity with street outreach and collaboration with community providers.
