Lead Healthcare Engineering Supervisor

This role functions as a supervisory leader within the Engineering Service, overseeing a dedicated section at a comprehensive and affiliated VA Medical Center, which includes additional Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
At this level, the Lead Healthcare Engineering Supervisor is responsible for supervising professional engineers and support staff at the GS-13 level and below.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exercise comprehensive supervisory authority, including the development of performance standards and evaluations.
- Make recommendations regarding appointments, awards, promotions, and, when necessary, disciplinary actions.
- Identify ongoing training needs for team members.
- Provide advanced professional engineering guidance to colleagues, subordinates, and non-engineering administrators.
- Review and direct the assessment of technical plans, specifications, and design analyses submitted by team members.
- Act as the technical authority, offering expert advice on the maintenance of facilities and structures across extensive geographic areas.
- Oversee the review of activity plans, specifications, and cost estimates for technical soundness and feasibility.
- Manage maintenance standards for sophisticated equipment and technology systems.
- Handle budgeting and financial management for engineering projects.
- Supervise a team to ensure the successful execution of construction and maintenance tasks.
General Overview:
Healthcare Engineers play a vital role in delivering professional services that focus on engineering and architecture within the healthcare delivery system. They ensure that the necessary infrastructure, facilities, and equipment are in place to support the medical mission effectively.
Healthcare Engineers collaborate closely with biomedical engineers to ensure the seamless integration of medical technology into patient care environments. They are responsible for specifying the spatial layouts and environmental requirements essential for the integration of medical equipment within healthcare facilities.
Work Schedule:
Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Telework:
Occasional telework is authorized for specific short-term assignments or to accommodate unique circumstances.
Physical Requirements:
The work environment may involve everyday risks or discomforts typical of office settings, training rooms, and libraries. The role may also require outdoor work in various weather conditions.
Travel Requirements:
Occasional travel may be necessary for attending conferences, site visits, and specialized training related to medical equipment and systems.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture from an accredited institution. Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
