The Systems Engineering Division (SED) boasts extensive expertise in systems engineering, serving the U.S. government and various public and private entities, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial firms engaged in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris management, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule evaluation, and economic market analysis, SED leverages a vast array of engineering and business disciplines to address a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.

The Systems and Operations Assurance Department specializes in Quality Engineering for activities related to the design, manufacturing, integration, and testing of space systems hardware. We seek driven candidates to join our high-performing and collaborative team to enhance our capabilities in meeting the technical challenges of the future. This role necessitates a robust understanding of QA requirements and the adaptability to apply fundamental Quality Engineering skills and concepts throughout a typical program lifecycle.

Work Model: This position requires full-time on-site presence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement fundamental Quality Engineering expertise and concepts throughout the entire program lifecycle.
  • Assess and analyze risks, trade-offs, and mitigation strategies tailored to specific QA requirements.
  • Utilize a systematic and methodical approach to problem-solving and root cause analysis.
  • Engage in gated design and hardware production readiness reviews, providing technical evaluations and recommendations.
  • Participate in hardware Failure Review Boards, offering risk assessments and comprehensive evaluations.
  • Conduct mandatory inspections of electronic hardware at prime contractors and sub-tier suppliers/subcontractors.
  • Execute independent pedigree, End Item Data Package, and Hardware Acceptance reviews.
  • Develop and implement process and product assessments and audits, from planning through verification of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide independent, data-driven technical guidance and feedback to management and clients through effective verbal and written communication.
  • Travel to client and/or government facilities while representing the company and department professionally.

Qualifications for Success:

Minimum Requirements for an Engineering Specialist:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related scientific field.
  • 10 years of technical experience as a quality or manufacturing engineer in aerospace-related manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with QMS standards, including ISO 9001 and/or AS9100.
  • Knowledge of workmanship standards such as IPC J-STD-001 and NASA 8739.x series.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers and subcontractors to resolve technical challenges.
  • Proficiency in conducting audits and participating in Independent Review Teams (IRTs).
  • Understanding of industry compliance standards and contract flow down.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and nonconformance reports.
  • Willingness to travel to contractor and/or government facilities (estimated 30% travel time).
  • This position necessitates a current and active TS/SCI security clearance, issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

It would be advantageous if you possess one or more of the following:

  • Experience contributing to program reviews such as SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, and PSR.
  • Involvement in anomaly and failure investigations, including MRB and FRB.
  • Experience planning and conducting AS9100 QMS audits.
  • Proficiency in performing root cause analysis.
