Position Summary

The Vehicle Systems Division (VSD) is pivotal in the ideation and data analysis for present and future systems, offering innovative research and development, technical evaluations during acquisition, and operational support. The division consists mainly of highly skilled mechanical and aerospace engineers, providing national expertise in vehicle engineering, guidance, navigation, controls, robotics, and more.

The Mechanical Systems Department (MSD) comprises approximately 20-25 engineers dedicated to delivering technical mission assurance support, ensuring the reliability of moving mechanical assemblies (MMAs) and explosive devices during spacecraft, launch vehicle, and missile system operations. The Launch Mechanisms Section focuses on the evaluation of requirements, design, analysis, and testing of launch vehicle and missile systems' MMAs, adhering to industry standards.

As a Senior Member of Technical Staff - Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering within the Launch Mechanisms Section, you will collaborate with section managers and various engineering departments to perform multidisciplinary analyses that guarantee mission success for ongoing and upcoming missions. This role utilizes expertise in launch vehicle MMAs, deployment and separation systems, and explosive devices to support program objectives.

Work Model

This is a full-time role offering a hybrid work model, combining regular onsite workdays with remote flexibility based on business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess moving mechanical assemblies and/or explosive devices for launch vehicle, spacecraft, and missile programs.
  • Evaluate designs, analysis results, test plans, and applicable standards.
  • Conduct analyses and modeling of moving mechanical assemblies, deployment, and separation systems.
  • Collaborate with technical staff and management to resolve engineering challenges and ensure mission success.
  • Prepare documentation and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Support technical initiatives and collaborate with senior staff on program tasks.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements for the Senior Member of Technical Staff - Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering include:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in launch vehicle, spacecraft, or missile program support.
  • Willingness to travel and/or work outside regular hours to meet customer needs, approximately 10% as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous if you possess:

  • An advanced degree in a STEM field.
  • Experience with mechanical designs, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with hardware integration and testing.
  • Knowledge of multi-body dynamics analysis and hydrocode analysis tools.
  • Experience with moving mechanical assemblies and separation systems.
  • Understanding of AIAA-S-114, SMC-S-016, and/or NASA-STD-5017A standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • An active security clearance issued by the U.S. government.

Compensation and Benefits
