Job Overview:

As a Senior Firearms Training Specialist, you will serve as the primary liaison for Federal Flight Deck Officers upon their arrival at the training facility. Your responsibilities will include verifying credentials and weaponry, conducting comprehensive training sessions, and supervising the firing exercises at the range. Ensuring the safety of all individuals present and maintaining the confidentiality of Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) during and after training sessions will be paramount.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the initial point of contact for Federal Flight Deck Officers, managing their check-in process and confirming weapon and credential authenticity.
  • Deliver classroom instruction, including TSA-approved training and safety briefings, while ensuring that all participants understand and acknowledge safety protocols.
  • Maintain an appropriate instructor-to-student ratio, ensuring a minimum of one instructor for every six students during training sessions.
  • Oversee the inventory of training materials, ensuring all necessary supplies are available for monthly requalification sessions.
  • Maintain control of the training environment from the moment students arrive until their departure.
  • Ensure accurate scoring of targets and completion of all required administrative documentation.
  • Certify qualification scores for all Federal Flight Deck Officers, ensuring compliance with established protocols.
  • Safeguard all Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) in accordance with TSA policies.
  • Manage the recording of all instructor labor hours.
  • Participate in internal compliance training events as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION / EQUIVALENT TRAINING:

Current or former federal law enforcement personnel who have successfully completed a recognized federal firearms instructor training program acceptable to TSA/FAMS. Examples include graduates from FLETC Firearms Instructor Training Program (FITP), FAMS Firearms Instructor Training Program, or equivalent federal training programs. All candidates must complete a 2-3 day firearms re-qualification training program under the guidance of the appropriate authorities.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 5 years of firearms training experience is required. An Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, or military experience is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This role typically involves working at both indoor and outdoor shooting ranges. Employees will handle firearms and ammunition, with exposure to high noise levels and the necessity of wearing hearing protection. Employees may also encounter gunpowder residue and must adhere to hygiene protocols after handling ammunition. Physical effort may be required in managing light materials and equipment.
