ERM is seeking a Machinery Safety Training Specialist to collaborate with our technology client. The specialist will play a crucial role in educating personnel on the safe and effective use of machinery and tools within a research and development environment. This is a part-time position, offering 16 hours per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Emphasize the safe and correct operation of various machine tools, including those used for wood, metal, plastics, and 3D printing.
  • Guide employees on proper techniques for part layout and the appropriate use of hand tools.
  • Instruct on the setup and operation of manual lathes, including the use of tools and work-holding devices.
  • Provide training on the setup and operation of manual milling machines, focusing on tools and work-holding techniques.
  • Teach the correct procedures for operating surface grinders.
  • Curriculum Development:
  • Create and update instructional materials, including lesson plans, manuals, and supplementary handouts.
  • Design practical exercises and projects that reinforce theoretical concepts through hands-on experience.
  • Instruction and Training:
  • Educate employees on the safe and proper use of machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machinery.
  • Demonstrate effective machine operation techniques, prioritizing accuracy, efficiency, and safety.
  • Provide tailored instruction to ensure employee understanding and skill acquisition.
  • Safety Management:
  • Implement and uphold rigorous safety protocols and procedures within the machine shop.
  • Conduct regular safety training sessions to ensure employees are well-versed in emergency procedures.
  • Perform routine inspections of machinery and equipment to confirm they are in safe working order.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required; a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
  • Over 7 years of experience in a safety training environment; experience as a CTE-credentialed educator in machinery, automotive, woodworking, or similar fields is beneficial.
  • Experience in a professional research and development setting is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in technical skills, including experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in operating various machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machinery.
  • Familiarity with machining techniques, blueprint interpretation, and precision measurement tools.
  • Safety Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of machine shop safety practices and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to conduct safety training and enforce safety standards.

Compensation:

The anticipated annual base pay for the Machinery Safety Training Specialist position ranges from $78,475 to $86,827, translating to $37.72/hr - $41.74/hr. Compensation will be determined based on various factors, including education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
